We have been working hard on a new version which is now available. An excellent new feature is the ability to view (in the simulator) designs stereoscopically. This means that if your graphics card supports it (NVIDIA Quadro cards and some 3d viewing hardware), Simmetry3d will generate images for the left and right eyes which gives a true 3d stereo experience. For those without this sort of hardware there is a red-cyan mode which gives an almost as good effect (although you will need a pair of red-cyan glasses).
I addition to the real-time stereo features, there is a stereo video generation capability. Again this can be red-cyan; but also can be true-stereo - this type of video needs a special player
http://www.3dtv.at/Products/Player/Index_en.aspx.
Again if you generate a true-3d video file and you have the correct type of hardware then this video player will allow true stereoscopic viewing of the video.

I'll post again shortly when I have done somemore testing with a quadro card and some lcd shutter glasses.

Here is a screenshot of an anaglyph stereoscopic view (it looks odd until viewed though red-cyan glasses)

I've now tested the stereo quad-buffered mode with a nvidia quadra graphics card and a pair of edimensional shutter glasses (http://www.edimensional.com) through a crt monitor and the results are really impressive! The monitor needs a refresh rate in excess of 75Hz otherwise you can see a flicker, but at 85Hz its really clear.

The drivers which come with the glasses for non-quad buffered graphics cards are unfortunately incompatible with Simmetry3d.

I will be testing the nvidia 3d drivers (for non-quad buffered cards) with simmetry and the shutter glasses to see if they give better results.
